Edge Housing Edge Housing

June Bulletin

Updates from Edge Housing.

Ephesians 4:32 -

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you

In May we held one of our team away days with the purpose to look at what makes Edge Housing stand out. As the day went on one theme kept coming up:

KINDNESS.

We do need to be professional and compassionate and adaptable and many other things, but it’s kindness which threads itself through everything we do that we believe makes us different. Kindness to our residents, kindness to each other, kindness to other organisations and kindness to ourselves when life is hard or when we make mistakes. Sometimes it is easy to feel too stretched or too tired or just feeling a lack of generosity but we believe if we are always looking for opportunities to show kindess, life becomes just so much better.

UPDATES

Edge has been nominated for two Homeless Link Excellence Awards!

The first is for our work with Oxfordshire Homeless Movement, Connections FS and Asylum Welcome in supporting those with no recourse to public funds. We are able to do this thanks to a generous donor who gave enough donation for us to purchase half a house.

The second is for how we work with landlords and churches in providing homes for those in need in Oxford.

Celebrations!

No matter how much we hope that our houses feel like a home, ultimately this is only a temporary part of their lives and we love to see people move on once they are ready. This past month we have said goodbye to two of our residents who came to us in distress, and while we are sad to see them leave, we are so happy for them that they leave with confidence, a plan, support, and having had the time to rebuild their lives. F* came to us from a recently broken marriage involving children, addiction and trauma on all sides. F* not only had the time to focus on their recovery, but build back up a career, had counselling over a long period of time and now their family is ready to try again.

SPOTLIGHT ON MALCOLM

(Malcolm Riley - Maintenance)

Sometimes God works subtly and other times His work is obvious… having Malcolm come to work with us seemed like an obvious statement of Gods love for us!

Malcolm’s skills at being creative in fixing and maintaining the properties seem unparrelled and we are so blessed to work with him.

Malcolm also uses his wisdom, technical knowledge and pastoral heart on our governance team and has supported staff through leading Alpha courses.

Needs!

  • We would love some board games/sports equipment/table tennis table for our new hub we are opening, if you have any spare.

“Your help and support around everything has been a tower of strength”
